My best workouts are in the 24-36 hour window of my fast

I am writing this from my gym since I am feeling very lethargic after I broke my 48h fast two hours ago.

I notice that eating anything before my workouts ( protein shake, a banana, chicken breast) makes me feel very drained, however, after 24hours of fasting I feel very energetic and usually have my best and strongest workouts then.

I also notice that after around 36 hours I am not as powerful, even though I still have the energy to workout, so I usually do lighter sessions on days 3+ of my fast.

Does anyone else feel the same? I see lots of people doing carb loading before a heavy g session and this absolutely does not work for me

Answer

I have been doing Omad and 20:4 for the best part of 2 years alongside a ketogenic diet. Recently tested eating a couple of hours before my workout and pretty much every compound movement has suffered. Now back to fasted training and eating after my workout my numbers are back up. Usually, my extended fasts are done over the weekend on my recovery days so can’t provide any input on longer fasts but would like to hear what others think.
