Need advice on when to do extended fasts

I’ve been dabbling with extended fasts recently, and I’ve decided that I want to incorporate them regularly, once a month. I have PCOS and now that my cycle has finally started to become regular, I’m looking for ideas on what phase of my cycle would be the best for my fast. Is there any part of the cycle when hormones would benefit more from having lower insulin levels? Looking to brainstorm! Also, don’t want to disrupt my almost regular periods by fasting at a bad time. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Answer

I find that the easiest time is about three or four days after my period ends. The hardest days, for me, are the week before my period is scheduled to start.

It’s possible that fasting will still change your cycle a bit, if you’re also losing weight. As your body releases stored fat, it also releases the hormones stored along with it, and those hormonal changes often have an effect on the monthly cycle.
