I have been fasting for a couple of months now but I’m just asking a quick question in regards to drinking a zero calorie drink with 4 g if carbs yesterday. I know that technically breaks a fast but if you are only fasting solely for weight loss is this really something that set me back at all? I’m not too worried about autophagy and I can always reach that in the next day or so anyway but I did drink a vitamin water the zero sugar lemonade one with 0 calories. As long as it doest distrust the weight loss I’m ok correct?
It depends on how your body reacts to it and how long it takes your body to reduce insulin.
The best way forward would be to check that with a blood glucose monitor, IMO. If your body has a large reaction to it, which is possible since more than a third of americans have prediabetes, meaning that their blood glucose levels are too high and take longer to decrease to lower levels, that means your body won’t be able to access fat reserves for the period while your insulin is high, which can take a few hours.
In that case, the biggest problem isn’t the weight that you are not losing, but metabolic slowdown. Since you are in a deficit but don’t have access to fat reserves, the only way out for your body is to reduce caloric expenditure - in other words, reducing metabolism. Not only can this make you feel cold and tired, but it can also have long run effects. This is why so many The Biggest Loser participants get their weight back so fast - following a CICO diet without fasting leads to metabolic slowdown.
In my opinion, if this is the case (which can only be really tested with a blood glucose test), it is better to do OMAD. This way your body will have glycogen for the period while your insulin is high.
I’m wondering the same thing about just having drank the water flavoring “MIO.” It’s zero calories and zero carbs and it has B vitamins. I’m adding it into my fast but I hope it doesn’t ruin all the benefits I’m going for. I want to lose weight, switch to KETOSIS, clear my head, connect spiritually and hopefully autophagy. I’m worried I’ve ruined the autophagy.
