Negative side effect of consuming more pork?

Where I’m from pork meat is cheaper compared to cow’s, if one is rotating between chicken, turkey, fish, etc. but is overall having more pork than cow, would there be any issues (if meals always include fiber/vegetables)?

Check your country’s laws and regulations on feed for pork. Pigs are interesting animals in that they will eat just about anything and can turn it into meat, but will store many harmful chemicals from the feed, especially in their fat. There was an interesting case a few years back of sweet tasting pork, that was linked to the pigs diet largely coming from extra stock from a candy factory. If your pork is being fed a good diet of mostly grain or other natural foods, then it’s definitely fine to eat, and I personally eat a lot of pork, but try to get Canadian raised rather than American due to stricter agricultural standards in Canada.

Also, pork fat can be very high in Omega 6 compared to other animals, with almost 50% of the fat being omega 6. So if you are eating a lot of pork, stick to lean cuts like loin, and have a decent amount of omega 3s to balance it out.

I personally eat pork as my main meat, and love how versatile, cheap and tasty it is, and haven’t noticed any bad effects from it compared to when I ate mostly chicken and beef a few years ago.

Pork is very tasty, but as others have stated the feed and living conditions of the animal can impact the quality. Interestingly, I have read that lard (pork fat) is one of the lowest deuterium foods. But the fat is more negatively impacted by poor feed increasing the PUFA content.

Believe it or not, pork in the US is regulated to be additive free. Sort of like lamb in Australia. That said you shouldn’t be consuming more than 3 servings a week of more than 12 to 18oz each per week.Even that, I would stick to leaner parts like the tenderloin or shoulder (butt) cooked in a slow cooker to gently drain out most of the cats released. This is of course instead of all other red meat in a week.Negative effects start to take effect when you consume over these guidelines. Is that what you’re asking or are you asking about consuming pork instead of other meats?
