new to fasting. any advice for getting started?

Hi everyone. I’m just getting started with fasting. The first meal is around 12 or 1 pm. The last meal is at 7 pm. I’m trying to learn to like black coffee, but that is hard so far. Any tricks or tips on that would be appreciated. Also, is that a good window of time for eating? I’m not exactly sure how many hours you need to go without eating. My other question is, during the time you can eat, do you need to be in a calorie deficit? Kinda winging it and not exactly sure how it works. Any advice is appreciated 😊

Your window seems good–you’re already doing 16:8 and sometimes even 18:6, which are really popular choices. Starting your window later in the day is also pretty common. Personally I find that it’s way easier to skip breakfast than dinner, because I have a lot of trouble falling asleep hungry. So I also eat from 12 to 5-7pm depending on the day (my last meal of the day is almost always a communal one so the end of my window really just depends on when the food is ready lol). But really the most important thing is to do whatever works for you in terms of what you can actually stick with. Fit your window around your lifestyle so it’s as easy as possible to maintain. It sounds like you’re already doing that, so really all you have left to do is ensure you’re making healthy choices and maybe even adding in an exercise routine! You’re already well on your way.

Specifically wanted to provide tips for liking black coffee:

  1. Sprinkle cinnamon into your coffee grounds before you brew
  2. Add a touch of salt into your coffee once it’s made

I don’t full understand the science of #2 but it cuts some of the bitterness, and the cinnamon gives it a great flavor!

I started to drink black coffee in the mornings too, about 3 weeks ago. The idea is to restrict daily calories but moreso to reset the body into a fasting “hungry” state where the body loses weight and also you are not deprived because you will eat later. if I have a breakfast or a milky coffee I am not restricting my diet enough. I have a black coffee made of coffee beans. My tip is I add a bit of cold water when before I would have added cold milk.
