New to IF, couple of questions

Hi all, new to IF. There’s a couple of things that I can’t find a definitive answer for. Does it matter when I fast? It seems most people break their fast several hours after waking up and eating into the evening. Could I do the opposite and break my fast in the morning and finish eating at lunch? Are no calories allowed during fast? are sugar free energy drinks, diet soda or protein powder allowed during fasting Thanks in advance

Answer

(1) No it doesn’t. What matters (for body weight management / fat loss) is how much calories you eat in a day, and how long you fast uninterrupted. Choose whatever schedule works best for you, and don’t be afraid of adjusting as you go until you find your sweet spot.

(2) No calories - be it from sugar or anything else. Artificial sweeteners are controversial in the context of a fast, but they’re generally speaking not good for you anyway. And they may still make you hungry. Personally, it’s a no. Water, sparkling water, black coffee, plain tea. Besides, you’d be best served to learn how not to ingest anything, be it a “substitute” for taste and full of artificial flavorings and colors. It may take some effort, but long term, it’s best. There is no such thing as a zero-calories protein powder. Pure protein is 4 cals a gram.

Answer

Absolutely!! You do you! Find what best works for you and stick to it. Once you start IF you will slowly get the hang of it. I also totally agree with the first comment. Personally I also stick to strictly green tea and black coffee. Once your body gets adjusted to it, you will notice that you don’t feel hungry at all and cravings totally disappear! So it makes it much easier. It might seem difficult in the start but hang in there and slowly you will see the amazing benefits and changes! Best of luck with your IF!👍
