New Year's Resolution - Get back to fasting

I used fasting as a tool to shed a lot of unwanted weight and get back to health a number of years ago. A couple of kids and shitty lifestyle since then have got me once again dealing with an unhealthy body and an unhealthy relationship with food.

One thing I’ve noticed with fasting personally is that I need some momentum to get started, and that if I’ve been overdoing it on carbs it’s far more difficult. That’s why the last few months I’ve been focusing on exercise, eating cleaner, focusing on protein, limiting carbs, and giving up sweets of any kind.

Now I feel like I’m ready to get back into it, and as such I’m resolving to complete, at minimum, one 24 hour fast every week. I do like longer fasts (I don’t usually go longer than 5 days, or I start to feel weird) and hopefully by the end of the year I’ll be back to that, but for now baby steps.

No real advice needed, I just felt the desire to post this somewhere to give me a bit of personal accountability.

Happy new year all!

I feel similar. I have been taking a break and this morning I tried to get back on. I really NEED to get back on as I have been cheating.

But, it was so difficult…

There also needs to be some time for me to lose weight before I get down to where I am losing new weight.

Today I’m on my first 96+ hour fast of 2022, but I started with 6 days of OMAD in a 90 min eating window. Building momentum is very smart as it getting your “fasting muscles” back in order. Also, that 6 days of OMAD definitely depleted some glycogen stores, so getting on the K-train won’t be as long or difficult a process. And you might find this interesting, but I learned fasting back in the 70’s and 80’s and no one low-carbed before a fast. The Atkins “revolution” didn’t start yet, but we did pre-load with loads and loads of whole food plant based meals, and I still pre-fast like that to this day. Whole oatmeal, brown rice, veggies, fruits, green smoothies, potatoes, sweet potatoes, massive amounts of beans, etc., etc. And it doesn’t delay my ketosis at all, in fact, I think it accelerates it as the transit times of these foods, as opposed to meat, eggs, cheese, gets me feeling “empty and clean” within the first 24 hours. Plus, they are relatively low calorie, so I’m cutting my glycogen stores without really noticing it. Well, long post and I apologize for that. Cheers and good luck with your 2022 fasting goals!!! :)
