Newbie - Second Attempt - Questions about nutrition

Started: 23 Jan 23’ SW: 305 CW: 294

I had a few successful weeks in October 22’ where I managed to fast for rolling 48s and got a 72 in - I lost 20lbs over 2 weeks (my refeeds were garbage). I do not remember why I quit but I want to try again. Currently I am OMAD and am ready to get a 48 in.

I am approaching this time more prepared. I visited my local Natural Grocer’s and got electrolyte powder, stuff for snake juice if necessary, and liquid vitamin. I also want to take Resveratrol because I want to see if it helps with my inflammation. My questions are:

  1. Do vitamins prevent autophagy?

  2. If I go for an extended fast what is the universally accepted reefed procedure for a fat guy so I do not hurt myself.

  3. Is a gallon of water enough or should I try to push my intake? (I live at 5k elevation)

The current plan is to fill a gallon jug of water with a liquid vitamin daily serving and a couple scoops of this high concentration electrolyte mix I found. I would drink this through the day and change quantities based on my stomach response and dizziness/drowsiness levels.

Thanks for the help.

You should try to get all your vitamins and minerals from food and then use liquid vitamin etc. to fill in any gaps. You shouldn’t need to supplement vitamins for shorter fasts unless you know you’re deficient.

It looks like you have a decent amount of excess fat. Personally I’d focus on building good habits and losing the fat before worrying about autophagy. If liquid vitamins help you stick to your fast then take them.

A gallon of water should be plenty. Again, I recommend setting realistic goals for yourself. Many people battle to drink a full gallon. It’s like the 10k steps. There’s no real benefit for most people, it just looks and sounds impressive.

Focusing on nutrient dense foods and getting to a healthy weight is going to do more to counter inflammation that a supplement. Supplements should be the last place people start. There’s a ton of accessible information out there on the role of diet, alcohol, exercise etc. in reducing inflammation. No supplement is going to override any of these things.
