New to even thinking about blood sugar. I get it checked annually and A1C is good and so is fasting glucose.
But I got a glucose checker just to satisfy curiosity.
For context I’ve been doing OMAD for the last week. 16:8 for 2 weeks before that. Two years ago I did 16:8 with calorie counting to great effect and lost 25 pounds. Took me 2 years to gain it back, so I’m trying to make this a lifestyle now instead of just a diet.
18.5 hours into fast my blood glucose was 92. Is it normal to stay in the healthy range this late into a fast? I did have some girls out cookies for dessert yesterday and that may have extended higher levels.
Who here is non diabetic and checks their blood glucose? What do you notice? Most of the research I look at only talks in the context of diabetics.
Your good. 80-100 is normal range. I got checked 18hrs into a fast and was at 87.
Aside: The nurse told me to go the next day so I’d be fasted for bloodwork. Laughed in her face. Said I’m always fasted. Went straight from my appt.
Yeah, my blood sugar can be in the 90s at that point too. It gets into the 70s at about 24 hours fasting.
It’s very normal for your blood sugar to stay in the “normal fasting” range. It should, actually. You don’t want it to drop into the hypoglycemic range (sub-60). Your body stores plenty of glucose in your liver and muscles and will release it from storage to keep your body fueled, not to mention burning fat. This is the point of IF — use up that stored fuel.
Your body regulates its sugar to keep it in a normal range when you’re healthy. The glucose level during fasting is from glucose stores in your body. If your glucose was low, you would not be feeling so well…
