not losing weight on 72 hour fast?

I literally lost .4 lbs during three day water fast. I even gained weight from day 1 to day 2. Three days out of that 72 hr fast, I gained 3.6 lbs. I also did two 48 hour water fasts and I gained weight even when I didn’t eat anything. (I weight more day 2 on my fast).

I have increased my step count and one of these days I did 20 k steps.

Why am I gaining weight? My co worker even said the other day “your face looks a little fat. Are you pregnant?” I am not pregnant btw. While I am sexually active, I just finished my period and I took a pregnancy test when I got home.

Your body is retaining water. You aren’t gaining weight. Keep at it and don’t stress. You body will eventually regulate once it’s used to the lower calories. It will start biting your fat stores. Fasting isn’t a magic 🪄 wand and it doesn’t always work immediately. I promise if you stick with it you will lose weight, actual fat. The scale isn’t a reflection of fat loss.

Can you add your stats (age, height, weight, calorie range)? What do your meals and snacks look like?

Walking is great for a ton of reasons. I try to get 5-7 miles a day. I think of it as general background movement, like part of my NEAT movement. It doesn’t burn a ton of calories. You should absolutely still do it though.

It’s impossible to add fat when you aren’t eating. You also can’t gain almost 4lbs of fat in 4 days. This scale gain could be any number of things that aren’t fat.

Are you drinking ungodly amount of water? Because your body is not magical, you can’t take “real weight” on a fast, outside of filing your stomach of liquid. Speaking of it, is it a clean fast (only water)? I can’t believe it but if you were adding ton of sugar and or fat to your drink you could not lose weight and even gain it theoretically
