Notes from first 24+ hr fast

Yesterday, I did my first extended fast in awhile. My normal day mimics a 16/8. I normally eat dinner around 5 p.m. and don’t eat again til the next morning around 8-10 a.m.

My fast started Monday from 5 p.m and lasted until Tuesday 10 p.m. I was hoping to go to breakfast Wednesday in order to skip a ‘whole day’ of eating and account for sleeping time.

I drank only water and green tea. I had some salt. (I chose the method of eating salt crystals vs mixing it in water). I basically had to break the fast at 10 p.m because I could not sleep. My stomach was growling and aching for food. It was also making me stay alert, like my body would not rest until I had food.

I broke it by eating a pudding cup because I didn’t want a full meal and I had limited food on hand. But now I know, there were better options like a banana or some other fruit/vegetable. My stomach was still hurting a little after the pudding but not as badly and the growling stopped. The next morning, I ate breakfast as normal.

I’m hoping to fast 2x a week, at the beginning of the week and midweek. I felt kind of like a failure at first until I saw people in this thread say 24 hours was a hard milestone. My mind was committed, it was just my body wouldn’t hold out. I think what would have been helpful is if I had some electrolytes so I bought electrolyte powder. Any other suggestions? Should I do some more 24 hour fasts before transitioning to longer?

start with OMAD, 24:1, and in the no-eating window sip a lot of water (at least 3.5 liters). then move on to 30h, next week 36h, then 48h. drop the salt and the tea, that shit is messing with the electrolytes. sipping water electrolytes will take care of themselves. also, before u start the extended fast it would be wise to consume a nutrient dense food filled with minerals and vitamins like lettuce or avocado. anyways thats how i did it and it worked amazingly for me. now 4years later i can do 21day water fasts, never been sick or needed a doctor. gl

I just started OMAD. Right now it’s been 22.5 hours and the rat food is starting to look tasty.

You did a great job! I’m hoping to fall into a 30 hour fast by being busy next week.

Right now, the clock is not moving. Lol
