nutritional animal studies?

Hi all,

  1. I understand there are a lot of controversial topics in today’s nutritional science. Like, is red meat good/bad for you, what’s the optimal intake of unsaturated vs. saturated fats, etc. etc. It makes sense to me that these questions are extremely hard to answer in humans as it is hard/impossible to run the gold-standard method to learn causal relationships: randomized, double-blind studies. So I see a lot of discussion about association vs. causation for different topics. So I am wondering why aren’t there more (or primarily) omnivore animal studies done to answer these questions?

  2. Are there any influential/important/high-impact animal studies that you recommend reading?

Answer

I know there are studies on seine in the works. They are studying material swine diet to influence the nutrition in swine milk and the lasting effect on piglet gains. Apparently the science is being used for developing better formulas for human babies.

I know the scientist working on it.
