Is oat fibre really calorie free? It still contains carbohydrates. Are the calorie labels lying? 🧐
While fiber is a carbohydrate, certain forms of the nutrient contribute 2 calories per gram while others provide absolutely zero because they’re not fermented by the gut. Made from the husk of oats, oat fiber contains the latter, which is insoluble fiber, which manufacturers are then allowed to subtract from the total calorie count, which may then yield a zero-calorie product.
a while back someone contacted NuNaturals customer support and they responded saying it was technically ~20cals/100g, but rounded down.
tldr it’s negligible calories unless you’re consuming amounts that would probably be dangerous for your gut (risks digestive blockage)
