Hi! I was wondering if this was a healthy mix, im planning on doing this for breakfast because i dont really like cooking. Is this actually healthier than buying some instant quaker oats?
Thanks!
Absolutely,
I highly recommend adding a handful of dried cooking dates. Once they soften up, flatten them against the side of the pan with a fork and mix thoroughly to add a natural sweetness to every mouthful. Also consider nuts, spice, frozen fruit, berries, bananas, even other grains like buckwheat, and/or freekeh can make a nice combination.
May your morning oatmeal turn into a Great Big Breakfast that is super easy and nutritious!
Are you eating oatmeal or rolled oats? If it’s pre-made oatmeal check the sugar content. The pre-packaged stuff is not ideal but if it’s rolled or steal cut oats then yes, lots you can do and it’s a great breakfast. I used dried rolled oats. I add dried or fresh fruit; for fresh my favorite is blueberries or blackberries. Dried, I use cranberries that have NO sugar and a bit of mango. I add flaxseed, a scoop of protein powder and soy milk. Another favorite, is I put oats in a bowl and pour some liquid yogurt (low fat and NO sugar) over the oats. I add fresh fruit, no sugar cranberries and a partial scoop of protein powder. Stir and cover and let sit in fridge overnight so the oats soften. Once a week I’ll add coconut reduction balsamic as a drizzle topping to one of the yogurt-oatmeal preps. Absolutely fantastic. Rolled oats will help control blood sugar, cholesterol and the yogurt with active bacteria cultures will help stabilize your healthy gut microbiota. Adding the protein powder increases the total protein of the dish since my macros always favor a higher protein-carb-fat ratio.
Compared to so many other breakfast items - yes.
Just take care to watch out for added sugars or refined oils, and instead use raw, organic dried fruits if possible. The best is to soak your almonds and other dried fruits, and use rolled oats that do not contain sugar.
