I’d be curious to hear success stories from anyone who had a hard time trying to conceive and then had success after OMAD. I’ve read and can see there’s no definitive human studies. My acupuncturist discourages it. My fertility doctor is neutral. I did OMAD for one year with great success and felt wonderful. I stopped before trying to get pregnant because I thought it may negatively affect my hormones. No one can say definitively if it’s harmful or helpful but most people lean in the direction of harmful, so I’m not that confident about my decision. I’m about 15/20 lbs over weight and am back in OMAD while TTC. I feel like this is the best path but would love to feel more confident. I don’t have PCOS. I am having trouble conceiving, but I’m 41 so that’s not so unusual. I conceived easily and on first try at 34. No apparent issues outside of the egg quality issues to be expected at my age. I suspect (and research supports) that being in a normal weight range would help. Would really like to hear success stories or encouragement. But very open to the other perspective, too.
I’m not a medical doctor (just a PhD doctor) but I’ve been through fertility issues and did ivf at 35 to have my son, and was diagnosed with pcos even though my bmi is in the middle of the normal range. I had high testosterone that inhibited the proper hormonal signaling for successful ovulation. High insulin levels can exacerbate that. So I can see that IF might help if you have pcos. But if you don’t have hormonal issues, I don’t think IF would have much effect 🤷♀️
OMAD or not, losing weight is what is important from a fertility standpoint. There is no reason to believe OMAD would hurt fertility chances but we do know that excess body fat does - so if OMAD helps you lose weight, then yes, it will help your fertility.
