on a 16:8 fast, can I drink liquor outside my eating window?

Drinking is usually done at end of the day so I sometimes crave liquor but can’t help but think if it will affect my IF.

Answer

Nope. In fact, your fasting time won’t even start until your liver has dealt with that alcohol, it’s usually 2-4 hrs after you’ve finished drinking. I gained 20 lbs during the first lockdown because I was staying up until midnight watching Tiger King and sipping bourbon. My feeding window was from 12-6. I thought I’d be fine as I was in maintenance and had been for over a year. I later learned about the alcohol/liver sitch and realized I was only fasting for 9 hours a day. Ooops. Don’t be like me! It’s sucks to go up two pant sizes.

Answer

Yeah, any liquor needs to be during your eating window, and it will absolutely affect your blood sugar in ways that may make fasting harder. Keep it low carb and follow with water to keep your hydration up.
