Just curious about how some people fast for different benefits.
I do it 3 days each month. I’ve heard it’s a good idea, that your body and your cells benefit from it. I also do intermittent fasting for 14 hours, starting at 7pm usually.
I found out my depression went away while fasting, and I experimented with keto for a while. Found out I’ve got gluten sensitivity and it was causing me to be depressed. I was highly irritable too, which has gone away now that I stopped eating gluten
Possible TMI: I’ve been having menstrual problems and fasting relieves the symptoms better than any medication I’ve ever taken and doesn’t have the side effects of hormonal birth control. Also, although sometimes fasting feels like self torture, the benefits outweigh the discomfort for me, like I don’t have aching in my wrist when I’m at the computer too long and my skin has cleared up and my knees don’t crackle anymore. On the other hand I also have been more conscious of what I’m eating during feeding times so it’s not just fasting, but I think it plays a large part in contributing to my overall health.
As for weight loss, I’ve reached my goal weight a while ago and tend to maintain 10lbs above but it may be added muscle from the exercising. I’m content with my size now so rather than loss I think it helps me maintain also.
I (loosely 😳) IF 18/6 and extended fast for about 3 days at the end of the month (around menstruation).
Fat loss, challenge, health prevention, feelings during and after fasting. Similar reasons as for hardening. Im healthy & regular blood/plasma donor. 32 hours up to 7 days, depending on circumstances
Before I got sick I used to do <5 day fasts for the autophagy.
Tried a long one to see if it would help with the chronic illness that showed up.
It didn’t, it exacerbated it lol. I haven’t even done a shorty since then, just sticking with the IF.
Water fast for chronic pain issues. If I have a flare up, fasting tends to be the fastest way to end the flare up.
Currently on day 7, because of leg issues. It’s been getting better since day 4, but I don’t suspect it’ll get “good” until day 21 or so. This is what happened with my hands some years ago: somewhere between day 17-20, there was a sudden cold “woosh” in my hand, and the joint pain I’d gotten used to just went away.
I have multiple auto-immune conditions, food sensitivities, asthma/mcas, and I’ve even healed eustachian tube dysfunction by fasting. I know I’m not as insulin sensitive as I ought to be either. That is why I fast.
