Pre-workout and Post-workout?

F26, CW:160 GW: 130. This might seem like a dumb question, but I’m new to intermittent fasting. For those who also go to the gym, do you work out while in your fast? Or do you make sure that your eating window aligns with when you go to the gym so that you can get a pre and post workout meal in?

I worry about not having enough energy in the gym but this may unfounded?

Answer

I’m not doing IF currently, but when I was I felt it was important for me to be in my eating window while working out. I feel that I have more strength and I’m able to do better if I’m properly fueled.

I have known people who fast through their workout. Maybe it depends on how far into fasting you are for it to make a difference.

Answer

It’s fine to work out fasted, although of course your performance won’t be the same, even though you’ll still be getting benefits. If it’s weight / resistance training, then really want to break fast soon after with some quality protein.

Answer

My two cents is always until you’re training for like the Olympics or something, just work out when you have the energy and fits your schedule. The minor differences are not worth stressing over. I work out in the morning fasted and don’t break my fast for several hours after that because that fits into my day the best.
