Pregnancy and IF?

Hey!

Common consensus from the last post I saw: IF shouldn’t be practiced when pregnant.

What I’m wondering is about exercise in general - if I am pregnant, it’s in the very, very earliest stages. I don’t know if there’s an amount of activity that shouldn’t be done while growing a human or if it can harm the baby if I do any intense workouts (like running, since I very recently started running daily). Hoping you all can help me out with that 😊 have a great day and thanks for any advice!

Exercise is generally fine with no adjustments at that stage. Running should be ok too but the most conservative advice is to make sure you can keep up a conversation and not to let your heart rate go over 140.

I haven’t been pregnant in over 10 years but when I was, I also just started running. I was told if my body is already used to it, go ahead and continue it. If your body isn’t used to it, take it easy. I ended up having morning sickness till I gave birth so it ended up being a moot point lol.

NAD. I would just go a little at a time and see where you are at each interval. Double your water intake. Your body is usually really good at giving you signs of when you need to stop when you are pregnant.

As your belly grows you should think about good support (belly band). You can get round ligament and lower back pain from supporting a pregnancy (esp. with activity) and it’s quite painful. Absolutely agree that exercise within moderation can be beneficial but also keep your physician informed.

Again, this is a question for your doctor, but anecdotally there are lots of women who work out at my Orangetheory gym who are 5 to 8.5 months pregnant. Orangetheory workouts are HIIT, they just modify certain exercises accordingly and go at their own pace.

Answer

Exercise while pregnant generally leads to healthier pregnancies, births and babies. Listen to your body. Congratulations!! Also, I’ve always practised IF since I was a teenager and the only time I actually WANTED to eat breakfast was while pregnant and nursing. I know that’s anecdotal, but I’d guess most pregnant women wouldn’t feel good doing IF.
