Not sure if you experienced it, but some people’s appetites became smaller after a long fast. After I ended my five days fast, a simple meal fills me up. I did not feel the need to continue eating. I also seem to experience a change in how I view food. I used to hate myself for constantly wanting to eat pizza and fast food daily, but after I started doing regular 3 to 5 days fast, the craving stops. Now, I can’t stand fast food. My relationship with food is different now.

My tip, try long and extended fast. When I did the 16-8, I still craved fast food. Try a three-day first, and if you feel good, continue to five.

It all comes down to discipline and self-control.
The quicker you eat after breaking your fast the longer it will take for your digestive system to signal your brain you are full. Relax and take your time to properly chew your food.

It is light years easier for me to overeat on chips, pop and pizza than it is on salads, nuts and olives. So for me, food selection essentially prevents overeating. Both in terms of volume(for discomfort) and for energy balance(hard to overdo it with a big bowl of kale).

Good luck.

Binging post fasting has been an issue for me. But a slight reframing of what fasting actually means has helped. Widen the definition: The refeeding stage occurs within the fast itself, it’s part of the fasting experience, and arguably the most important part.

In my case, that’s OMAD eaten early in the day and limited to four hours of eating, so a 20/4 after each fast. 20/4 for another week during refeeding, and I sometimes even skip an entire day.

This widening of the definition of fasting has helped to curb my binging. The fast doesn’t end at the no-eating part, it ends a week or two later.
