Protein drink has 30g protein, yet main ingredient(99%) milk, how’s this possible?

Only ingredient is milk, has 1% other stuff(see pic). I’m perplexed because I know nutrition and I know protein, or so I thought. How is it possible that 1% of an 11.5oz drink gives ~22g protein, given that the milk gives only 8?

Answer

Take some tomatoes and crush them up. Then simmer off the water until it’s almost a paste, mix back in a crushed tomato or two to get the consistency you want, and you’ve got ketchup made with 99% tomato, but which has much more concentrated stuff because it has more tomato per weight.

There’s also variations of what needs to be reported, and how it needs to be labelled.

If they start with 99% milk, they may not need to relable the constituent parts of it, or all the processing steps such as spinning, cooking, freezing, etc. This stuff is Concentrated Milk, removing water weight and trading it for whey weight.

Answer

More likely whey. Whey is a byproduct of some forms in diary production and therefore super cheap. Casein is a lot more expensive and time consuming to make (however much better). I’d assume because whey is made from milk they can add it in under the filtered tab.

Also FDA allows labels a 20% margin of error.

Answer

The product is an extract of milk. So the product is 99% milk based. It’s not in the same form of a glass of milk but if you add enough of the right ingredients you’ll be able to make it milk again.

Milk isn’t one chemical, looking at it this way is like looking at cow tongue on a recipe and asking how they can claim it’s 100% beef.

I hope that explains my understanding well enough.

Answer

Water is filling. It makes one’s stomach feel full. Milk is mostly water.

Milk has a very low calorie density since it is mostly water. You would have to drink many gallons of milk to reach your normal calorie count for the day.

Just drinking milk would be a great way to lose weight. LOL
