Is pumpernickel bread healthy or should you still pick a whole wheat bread
Pumpernickel is a rye bread made with a sourdough starter. Whole grain rye is a good source of fiber and sourdough is a fermented food, excellent for the gut microbiome. It is a very healthy bread, relatively speaking, probably more so than whole wheat.
Moderation, of course, is key, like with anything else.
I don’t even believe “whole wheat bread” is the way to go sometimes, better than white processed bread for sure. I personally like sourdough for the healthy properties for my gut.
