Question about diet soda and gum?

So I just finished reading The Obesity Code by Jason Fung. I think I finally found my holy grail. I never really took fasting serious in the past but now I understand the purpose. I have also cut out all refined carbs as well as added sugars.

I finally understand sugar is the culprit. Dr. Fung says in the book to stay away from diet sodas but other people in here and other subreddits say it’s fine. Same thing about gum.

Is it actually confirmed that diet sodas and sugar free gum raise blood sugar levels or is that a myth? Thanks!

Answer

Gum and diet soda are not fine. The mere taste of something sweet (even artificially sweet) will release insulin and slow your progress. If you are going to fast just do it right. This isn’t about cutting calories it’s about minimizing insulin.

Gum is really bad because your body will think it’s about to have food, spike insulin and make you hungry from the acid production in your stomach.

Anyone fasting can still find success with eating/drinking these things but if you want to maximize your results, just leave them out.

I’m not sure about gum, but I read a few articles saying that diet coke does NOT trigger an insulin reaction. So it’s safe. Diet coke . I read further on, and it just went on on how it’s horrible for you and just makes crave real sugar so it was not reccomened. We all know diet soda is bad but we love it anyway.

I’m obviously not a medical professional . Just read a few different articles that Saud the same thing in different ways. I’m sure we can all find articles that fit what we want to hear.

I’m 31 days in and lost 6 lbs. Sw 145 cw 139. So try it with a diet soda and plenty of water. If not getting results ditch the diet soda
