Question about Dr. Fung's book

Hi- quick question to everyone who read Dr. Fung’s Obesity Code:

What did he say about weight loss and breaking long term fast?

I know that after day 3, we burn our fat and maintain good metabolism.
I am so bored and wanting to eat now.. this is my day 6th.
I want to give up and eat and restart my fast next week.
I’m trying to understand just HOW BAD of an impact it’ll be on my weightloss process.

Answer

Dr. Fung has said in podcasts that he generally isn’t pushing patients on his program into long term fasts. Sometimes he’ll start people off with a seven day fast just to kickstart things but generally his most aggressive protocols involve 36 hour fasts 3x/week and a low carb/healthy fat diet on the other days.

It’s true that after a few days of fasting you’re starting to really get some deeper benefits of fasting (autophagy has probably also kicked in for you now).

There isn’t a hard and fast rule about whether you should keep going or not (though if you’re truly not feeling well, break the fast!).

Dr. Fung does recommend green tea as an appetite suppressant if hunger is getting to you.

But really if you break your fast now and start another one next week that’s still quite fantastic! You’re probably not going to overeat to the point where you take in more calories than you avoided during your fast, so it’s very much a net benefit, and you still burned through fat in your liver and pancreas.
