I’m sure curious about intermittent fasting and how it works in terms of burning calories. My assumption is this:
If I do the same routine every day then it shouldn’t matter when I intake the food, as long as it’s the same amount of calories I take in, and everything in my routine being the same I’ll still burn the same amount of calories throughout the day, so why does it matter WHEN I eat said food, or how long of a break I have between eating?
As an example let’s assume a person is relatively lazy. Their routine is being sedentary, lots of sitting for work (8-9 hours), sitting and watching the TV the rest of the evening, and doing a 30 minute walk at some point throughout the day to be mobile, and sleeping 8-10 hours.
Which one of these would be best for that person to do?
Set up: For food, let’s just say for simplicity that the only thing this person will eat today is a whole pizza and we’ll say it’s 2400 calories. Here’s how the typical day plays out for that person: 7:30am - Wake up and eat Breakfast 8am - Start work (computer job sitting) 12pm - 12:30pm - Lunch 12:30pm to 1pm - 30 Min walk 1pm - 5pm - Work (back at computer) 5pm-5:30pm - Dinner 5:30pm-10pm Sit on couch and watch TV til sleep (really only get up to go to bathroom) Sleep at 10pm
I imagine this is the actual routine for some people. So, which would be best as far as the body making the most out of the nutrients of said pizza, and why?
Whole Pizza at Breakfast Whole Pizza at Lunch Whole Pizza at Dinner
1/2 for Breakfast and 1/2 for Lunch 1/2 for Breakfast and 1/2 for Dinner 1/2 for Lunch and 1/2 for Dinner
1/3 Breakfast 1/3 Lunch 1/3 Dinner
IF is about reducing your eating window to give your body a break from constant food. At a minimum you should fast for 12 hours but optimally more, so you won’t get constant insulin spikes from eating. Read Dr Jason Fund’s book The Obesity Code or watch him on YouTube. And if you want to lose weight you’ll need to reduce your calories.
