Question about intermittent fasting and loose skin while losing weight

I’m in the process of losing 70 lbs, but when I read about the effects of intermittent fasting to prevent loose skin, it’s always in periods of 24, 36 hours or more. Would a daily fast of 16 hours have any impact on preventing loosing skin during the weight loss process?

Answer

I honestly think loose skin is dependent on your age, how long you were overweight, how overweight you were, and genetics. I think these factors will determine if your skin will “tighten up” or not. At a certain point if skin has been stretched too far then I don’t think any amount of fasting will fix that (I assume you mean like a potential autophagy benefit?). In my case, I lost a significant amount of weight in my 20s and had no loose skin. 10 years later after 2 pregnancies and significant weight regain it was another matter entirely, I had to get the skin removed via plastic surgery. If you have actual hanging flaps I think that is way past what fasting can fix.

Answer

I lost 60 lbs doing IF (without knowing, I was just skipping meals some times over long periods).

It took me about a year and a half to get rid of it and I have to say my skin is not as loose as I imagined, my body did an acceptable job at shrinking it maybe because I was losing weight slowly.

I guess your understanding is correct since 16:8 will give time to you body to adapt to your new smaller size.

In my experience I couldn’t be happier that I decided to go for it regardless.
