Question about Keto

Hi All

I’m post menopausal, with a non alcoholic fatty liver, insomnia and recurrent, complicated UTI and with about 40lbs to lose.

I would really like to get a grip on my health before it degrades further.

I’m quite happy to fast and have no problems doing OMAD once I get into a routine.

I have lost weight doing keto in the past but could not sustain that way of eating given my lifestyle (lots of travel).

My question is can I eat low carb sporadically? As in try my best to eat low carb while home but eat what I’m able when traveling etc? Would it affect my hormones? Anything else internally? Weight loss? Does anyone does this? How was your experience?

I’ll appreciate any insight into this please. Thank you!

Answer

Greek yogurt, peanut butter or cream cheese and celery sticks, hard boiled eggs, Jerkey, egg white omelette for breakfast and dinner (mushroom and spinach) buy ground chicken and add spices to make your own breakfast sausage or Italian meatballs (add whole eggs to each for binder) cook the meatballs with some sauce and you have snack food all day long, buy bags of grilled chiecken breast. Protein powder or drinks in different flavors. A quick blended protein shake with some peanut butter is excellent. Sliced turkey and chicken breast from the deli at your local grocery store. There are many options even when traveling or staying with family and friends. Wife is in a similar situation and she finally realized her health was more important, so she takes time everyday to focus on 15-30 minutes of exercise, preparing high protein snack foods and meals and a moment to focus before meals to remind herself not to gorge on the donuts or sliced bread or French fries. Eat before grocery shopping, make a list and stick to it. A burger with double the fixins minus the bun is really a great meal. You can do this, just remind yourself of how great you feel and how good you look when you’re keeping up with the regimen.

You’ll be fine. The transition might be tough. Kinda depends on how long you travel.

Like, if you do keto, after 3-6 weeks your body gets “fat adapted” and it can get fuel from fat.

Then, if you go on a trip for a couple days and eat low carb - but not keto - your body will take the fuel from the carbs, but also could from fat. You come back home to keto, your body will quickly go back to fuel from fat.

You go on a 2 week trip … it might be a tougher transition back.

How often do you travel? For how long?

Maybe make a goal to do keto for 3 months only. Or 6 months only. Just as a therapy. Not a forever thing. That might make it easier to stick to, knowing it’s short term, not forever.
