So I’ve started a modified version of Alternate Day Fasting where I eat once every 48 hours, sometimes every 72 hours depending on my willpower. The concept appealed to me because of the quick weight loss and ability to have one big meal rather than small unfulfilling ones..
However I’m wondering, are there other benefits to this method? I can somewhat estimate how much I’m losing based on knowing my TDEE and how many kcal I’m consuming. But does the eating period affect weight loss? Does it increase it or decrease it?
For example, if instead of having 1000 kcal/day over 1-2 meals. Does it make a difference if I consume 2000 kcal every 2 days over 1 meal instead? They’re the same calories eventually, but will I lose weight at a different pace? Or it is just calorie in, calorie out all the same?
TIA!
What you’re describing is exactly what I’m already doing. I’m averaging a bit over 2 lbs of fat loss per week, which is about the upper cap on what’s healthy. One note I’ve discovered is that Rolling 72s are actually a lot easier for me than Rolling 48s. It’s always the first day post-feeding that’s the hardest, so my recommendation would be to aim higher, rather than lower, and keep as consistent as you can. Aim for a month at least, and then review.
One thing I like to do is go out to an AYCE restaurant on my feeding day. Just make sure to eat a bagel or something a few hours in advance of your large meal on feeding day, and maybe some fruit a few hours after the fact, to avoid food comas where possible.
What I mean to say is what you’re suggesting is very viable, and works well for me. Of course, your mileage may vary, and always listen to your body if it tells you something is wrong :)
