Question about starting 16/18 as an US medical student

Hi everyone,

I’m a medical student in the US. I have a really intense and rigorous curriculum, so I need to stay alert throughout the day. I’m very interested in doing intermittent fasting 16/8. However, I’m afraid of feeling dizzy and tired for the first few weeks, which is something I can’t afford to do in the middle of the curriculum. I understand everybody’s physiological responses are different, but I’m wondering how long it typically takes for you to get used to it?

Answer

Medicine here too! Start small, progress an hour or two every few days. You will feel off at first, but then it slowly goes away. I feel well enough on my rotations, but you do need to keep hydrated.

A week is more than enough to get acclimated, and the dizziness/tiredness were negligible in my experience.
