Question for women in the forum[TMI]

I started fasting(alternative days) a month back, everything was normal but I noticed that I got my periods just after a week after my last period, should I be worried and get it checked or is it because of hormonal changes, should I wait out for one more month before I consult a doctor? Has similar thing happened to anyone before?Could dehydration cause this?

Answer

I don’t know about fasting but anytime I go low carb, I bleed. It was like 20yrs ago when I first recognized this and asked my dr, but as I recall he said something about how estrogen is stored in fat and shedding fat/estrogen causes bleeding.

Answer

I have an irregular period, usually 1 per year. When I started fasting regularly my hormones normalized and had a monthly period.

Fasting changes your period.

Talking with your doctor is never a bad idea.

Answer

If you have cheap access to a OB get it monitored early. Hormones change due to fasting and you wanna make sure you are not messing with something in your body. It wont be measurable until a couple occurences but better to stay on top of it.

Answer

It happened to me to. Now my cycle sometimes longer, sometimes same. My OB said it’s normal, as long as you get your period. it can be and because of my age I’m 32. If you not planning children right now don’t worry about it.

Answer

I take a hormonal birth control and skip periods. I have had annoying break through bleeding for a whole week now that I’m attributing to my increased fasting schedule last 4 weeks.

It is a little relieving when others have this experience as I do not usually have any breakthrough bleeding, so I want to thank you for posting.

Answer

Note: I’m not a woman and this isn’t about my experiences, just the data.

Fasting alters a huge number of bodily systems, but it is also dependent on sex and size.

Just one scientifically noted change is that in lean women cortisol levels are much higher than in normal weight women. If you are already lean then changes to your cycle fit with the small amount of scientific data we have.
