Question on burning fat at the end of a fast

Started IF January 07, 2022, doing 18:6 and already feeling great. Lost 3.5 lbs already (assuming mostly water weight). 32m 6’3” started at 260 lbs. Mainly eating twice a day (12pm and 6pm, with the odd snack).

Now when I am at the end of my fast and if I were to exercise/walk would that burn more fat than I would at the same time without fasting?

Thanks!

Answer

fasted cardio should theoretically activate those fatty acids more readily than working out an hour after eating, for example.

one thing to keep in mind is that your performance may not be as good.. but since you’re doing a low impact activity like walking i doubt that’ll be a problem.

My understanding is that there’s potentially some small difference, but on the whole no.

Remember that the body is an overall system. If you put that cardio at the end of your fast that’s burning X number of calories into a deficit. But if you put that cardio after you ate, you’re burning through those food calories faster and then your metabolism is going to carry you to the same deficit.

Basically you end up in the same place overall regardless.
