How come, when you go low/no carb, you lose a lot of water weight? Is there something about carbs and storing water in our bodies?
Carbs = carboHYDRATES. When you have an excess amount of fuel from carbohydrate sources it becomes stored in the form of glycogen. Each glycogen molecule is associated with several water molecules, to the tune of roughly 1:3 glycogen:water. So as your body works through these glycogen energy reserves you’re simultaneously depleting water that’s used to store it.
