Questions About ADF

I’ve been doing 40/8 fasts nonstop since 1/4 (except one cheat day). On my feed day I’ve been eating slightly below maintenance around 1890 cals and my maintenance calories were around 2372 when I first started. I started at 220lbs and I’m now around 205lbs so I’m guessing its lower by now but I am sticking to 1890 since it was a pretty big deficit. Am I eating enough? I’m hitting 40% carbs 40% protein and 20% fat with my current macros..

Answer

Great job on your fasting journey. I’m very experienced with ADF.

My first advice is forgetting all the nonsense about calories - it’s not helpful, and after ADF you’ll realise first hand why yourself.

On your eating day - eat REAL food. Nothing processed (especially grains). Eat as much as you want… Although you’ll find you won’t overeat due to your stomach shrinking/satiation from good food.

I’m pretty sure my first advice covers it, but if you are eating 40% carbs then you are definitely eating processed foods still. Seriously mate, cut the grains. The benefits are amazing.

You should be eating high-fat foods such as avocados, fatty meat, eggs, cheese etc. That satiates you and provides better nutrition to help you on your fast. It also keeps your insulin low so you start becoming fat adapted
