Questions about coffee, tea and gum

Doing a 14 day fast and had some questions

  1. How many cups of black coffee can I have in one day?
  2. Same question for green tea
  3. Also can I chew calorie less gum? If so how much?
  4. I did a 7 day fast around 3-4 months ago. Is it safe to do a fast after this amount of time?

Any help would be appreciated, cheers

Answer

Hi! It depends why your’re fasting. Dr. Fung is an expert on fasting, but his focus is on fasting for weight loss.

  1. I think Dr. Fung allows up to six cups of coffee, with 1 tablespoon of whole milk or cream in each cup.

  2. I think Dr. Fung allows unlimited tea, with 1 tablespoon of whole milk or cream in each cup.

  3. I think Dr. Fung recommends against sugarless gum. Still, if it’s made with xylitol and no other sweeteners, I personally don’t think it’s so bad for your body, and I think it may be good for your teeth. (But xylitol gum is more expensive than other gum, and you might have to order it online.)

  4. Please see here and scroll down to the “Duration of fasting” section.

Why are you fasting? :)
