I’m curious if anyone else here has PCOS or diabetes and if they do IF? If so- how do you manage spikes in blood sugar? Did you notice eating at a specific time of day (earlier rather than later in particular) was better for you?
I have PCOS and have been doing IF for a couple years now. It certainly helped and I lost weight (hooray!) but I’ve been noticing some weird pangs of hunger that I didn’t used to have recently.
I’ve recently looked into IF with insulin-resistant PCOS patients and diabetics, and IF seems to not be recommended. While weight loss is usually recommended for PCOS, it seems like IF may not be the best because you need more frequent meals (especially after waking) to maintain stable sugar levels.
Anecdotally, I had the best results (in terms of weight loss) with IF when I ate from 8 am- 4pm, but I switched to have my eating timeframe from 11 am - 7pm because it works better for my social calendar and getting to work is easier when I don’t have to worry about breakfast. Now that the pandemic is “over” it’s harder to switch back to earlier in the day. I don’t have any blood sugar monitors or ways of checking if the time of day actually makes a difference.
Did anyone find their insulin resistance problems could be mediated through having your eating window earlier in the day? Or any other recommendations?
Thanks for any advice or experience!
More frequent meals is CRAP info. I was T2 diabetic and eating more was the problem not solution. I stopped snacking and having multiple meals a day as well as gave up carbs and doing IF and within 3 weeks stopped taking my diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol meds. I now only eat once a day and other than not eating after 6pm will eat whenever I want to, that is as long as I’ve hit at least 18hrs of fasting ;)
If my window closes around 8pm, my morning fasting number is in the 90s. If it closes in the early afternoon, or I didn’t eat the day before, it’s in the 70’s.
That’s down from being in the hundreds earlier in the year.
