Quick question: is drinking anything else than water breaking a fast

I usually drink coffee in the morning but I just realized I might be breaking my fast. What are the rules when it comes to liquid because I thought it was just about the food.

Answer

Yes, drinking anything with calories will break a fast. Coffee itself probably wouldn’t because it’s calories are miniscule, but if you add stuff like sugar, milk, or cream, then that will add calories significant enough to really break your fast.

Answer

If you keep it black you’ll be fine (just no calories, artificial sweeteners can mess with your insulin as well). Some people cut out even black coffee and tea and only do water and electrolytes to be super strict but I don’t think there’s any evidence that’s necessary for the health benefits of fasting, although cutting out caffeine for awhile might have other benefits.

Answer

From all I’ve seen / read: Coffee and all teas (no cream, sugar, etc), H2O with a little apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, pickle juice are all OK. I mix a mushroom complex and some pink salt in my coffee which my research also said was OK. I guess “when in doubt leave it out” might be a good approach tho.
