Quinoa vs Brown Rice, And Others

Hi everyone, I’m trying to decide what’s a good grain to eat often for me. Lately I’ve really been into quinoa, but I’m wondering what others prefer. My criteria is that it has to have the fewest calories possible but also a decent amount of fiber. I’m a big fan of oats as well but I find it hard to eat them after breakfast time.

Answer

Bulgur wheat, farro, barley, buckwheat, brown rice, quinoa and steel cut oats are all relatively high-quality carbohydrates. They tend to be lower on the glycemic index than “regular” carbs, have a relatively high amount of fiber and protein, and can be prepared in diverse ways.

Diversity in your diet is important, so I’d mix it up and play with recipes rather than sticking to just one thing.

Answer

Brown Rice is overhyped, white rice is fine. So is quinoa.

All three are good choices. And are about the same in calories from a mass perspective. How “satiated” you feel is subjective regardless of studies, because some can’t eat much rice, but chug potato for a joke. And some other way around.

From a performance and health choice quality > food itself.

Perhaps quinoa? It’s slight higher in protein and fat but it’s nothing impressive, would perhaps be more “stable energy” than white and brown rice.
