Rashes on hands when fasting?

I always get rashes on my hands when fasting more than 24 hours. Advice on this or help understanding why? I have been doing meat heavy strict keto (almost Carnivore) since October so this isn’t a sudden detox. I have also been doing IF since early December and doing prolonged 72 hour fasting since mid December.

I’m a former midwife, so only going on that. I’m NOT a doctor nor is this medical advice. I will HIGHLY recommend that you investigate liver issues and rashes – they’re often tied together.

google “rash hands liver” and you’ll find a lot of info.

Answer

It could it be viral? I am not as deep into fasting but in December I started getting hives/rashes and the dermatologist told me if I’m not on any meds, it’s probably viral. It’s that time of year and especially if you have contact with children and/or the general public, it could be that. I would get it checked out if you’re concerned.

I just had this same thing happen last week! 5.5 day fast, developed a rash on my hands. I attributed it at first to the severe cold weather, as my hands seemed like they were cracking and exceptionally dry, but they were also itchy and developed a red rash, particularly my right hand.

I’ve done multiple OMAD, 24-36 hour fasts as well as a couple 48-72 hour fasts, and never experienced this.

Answer

I get a rash on might right hand when I fast for over about 16 hrs or if I am in Ketosis. Mine was diagnosed as a fungal infection. I am extrapolating candida or something similar feeding on my increased ketones. It goes away once I’m no longer giving it ketones to thrive on.
