Realized I was eating 14g of glucose every day, am I still in extended fasting?

For the past 4 days I thought I was on a water only fast. I had gotten these ORS sachet with 2.6g of sodium, 1.5g of pottasium, and I got magnesium citrate tablets of 400 mg.

I felt great, the urine ketone strips told me I had 160 mg/dL or more ketones in my bloodstream. I was then alerted by a friend that the ORS sachet had 13.5 g of dextrose anhydrous which is glucose!

So I was not on 0 calories. 3.4 kcal/g! I got 45 calories from one sachet. I might have had 1 to 2 per day. So maybe 80 calories per day from sugar :(

So I feel fine, I just am confused… should I just continue like this? is this too small of a sugar to matter? will this mean my body goes into starvation mode or something because now this is a low calorie diet?

I like how this ORS tastes, it will be a pain to find other sources of pottasium. I was using sea salt to supplement this for more sodium.

Answer

It’s enough calories to prevent many of the benefits of prolonged fasting, but it’s nothing to worry about. If you just press on, without eating any calories, you’ll start to reap the fasting benefits near immediately tho, as you’re near them as is.

Answer

14g of glucose is nothing. It depends on what you consider fasting, and what your fasting goals are. For weight loss Keto is generally less than 30-50g/day. I did 30g or less most days and stayed heavily in ketosis. Note urine test strips are pretty unreliable and you should get a finger stick test
