Tomorrow night I’ll be breaking a 4 day water fast and I really want to indulge in the right foods (last prolonged fast I did a few years back was broken with Wendy’s… delicious but irresponsible, I know).
Straight protein? Also are there any recommended supplements that I should be aware of or should I just pop my favorite multivitamin and call it a day?
According to Valter Longo the refeeding period is “when the magic happens”, as in during fasting the body starts getting rid of dysfunctional proteins, mitochondria, T cells, etc, but these are only remade when you refeed. But he says that eating healthy foods is all you need. And he recommends low intake of protein. And mostly just vegetarian. Don’t know if it’s true or not but the guy has been studying this for decades. So he may be up to something.
I should also add that he does talk a lot about of repopulation of cells from stem cell. Just look up his interviews with Rhonda Patrick.
The going reintroduction food on this sub is broth, but I like to include a light, well-balanced small (<500kcal) meal with 40/35/25 carbs, protein, fat. It depends on your goals, though. If you’re purely going for weight loss, I would limit calories and focus on protein. If you’re hoping to keep some muscle, a full protein diet would be helpful (given ketosis and glycogen breakdown at this point, low insulin) but won’t actually promote much muscle growth (anabolism).
