I wanted to see what you guys thought about whether or not a small sip of water to get down required daily medication breaks a dry fast. I have no thyroid and have to take thyroid medication twice in a 24 hour period. I’ve also been dry fasting for almost 6 days now, unless the most meager of sips to get meds down makes it not count.
Don’t get caught up in achieving 100% optimization/ideal scenario. “Fluid restriction” is still massively beneficial compared to downing food and water all day. We are not doctors in a clinic here but it seems like you should take the thyroid medication. If you have no thyroid then it sounds necessary.
“Technically” it breaks a fast, but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t still dry fasting. Taking a sip of water for necessary medication is so negligible and regardless, you are still fasting in some form. Better to take care of yourself than stress about the logistics of fasting
This is a very complicated question.
I have not read the research of filinov but August Dunning who cites his work a lot says that even getting water into your mouth without swallowing breaks the dry fast.
I’m a huge amatuer, I know nothing. But I can’t help but feel like it’s not super binary.
The thinking is that it takes 3 days of dry fasting to activate niche stem cells that then take another 4 days to fully replicate and travel to damage sites.
The question we arrive at is this effect binary. Can this occur with water in the body. This is hard to say and I suspect digging more into filinov would help answer.
I wish i had more to offer :(
I think regardless of the answer you can go by how you feel during this. If you feel good keep going. If you feel benefit keep going. Even if the body isn’t maxxing out stem cell production you still have the benefit of cell senescence.
I think Huberman podcast is coming out with a big study that said over something like 2.5 ounces starts your digestion in your small intestines, if you stay under that I think even in an hour still acts as if you don’t have any. Don’t quote me it’s parraphrasing but I wouldn’t worry about a little, I don’t think it resets anything at all.
