Research on muscle loss with extended fasts

As the title suggests, I would love to read about research regarding those embarking on extended fasts for prolonged periods, let us say over 3 months. Do they experience musle loss? If so, does it adversely affect their metabolism in a meaningful way?

Additionally, if on an EF but have a physically demanding job or strength train throughout, what are the benefits or drawbacks?

Answer

Keep at it w/ the resistance training. You’re not going to be setting any PR’s, so be rational.

Until you get down to less than \~12% BF (for men; dunno for women but it’s higher), you’re not at risk of meaningful muscle loss. And even 12% may be conservatively high.
