Safety of fish oil

Hi all! Wanted to share my concern about fish oil and specifically the issue about them containing heavy metals like mercury. I have also read that such metals cannot be expelled from the body, so they are being stored and accumulate over the years.

Is this true? and if so, can we rest assured that the fish oil we consume is metal-free?

Answer

Pretty sure you can find brands that test for mercury. That being said, high doses do seem to put you at risk for atrial fibrillation. Can’t find the original article I wanted to link but found another one mentioning it. Original one I read compared two studies, one trying to prove the benefits of fish oil while the other went in the opposite direction. The one thing the two studies had in common was the increased risk of atrial fibrillation
