Scared to exercise

I started 16 hour fasting three days ago. I eat between 12 and 8 pm.

The first two days were fine but today im seriously dizzy and broke my fast 30 minutes early. I wanna start working out (jogging) but just working my housekeeping job makes me feel like I’m gonna slip into a hypoglycemic coma. What am I doing wrong here?

Answer

Do you eat a high carb diet? It’s more likely a carb crash than an electrolyte imbalance/deficit after only 16 hours fasting.

Answer

Get some electrolytes! If all you have is salt on hand, drink some.

Then go get some magnetism and potassium.

Bone broth is a toss up. Here’s how I look at it.

If you wouldn’t stay on the fast without it, have it.

Some fasts I need bone broth. Some I don’t.

Answer

Your body should be able to cope for 16 hours without electrolytes, unless you were already deficient for some reason. It just takes time for your body to get used to fasting, probably because of the switch from burning glucose to burning ketones. If you haven’t fasted before your body hasn’t really used it’s ketone metabolic pathway much before, so makes sense it might be a bit sluggish at first.

If you’re struggling with 16 hours try dialling back a bit until it’s easier, then push the fasting window by an hour a week. Almost everyone finds fasting difficult at first, just do what you’re comfortable with and gradually push it as your body gets used to it.
