I was discussing with my friend the topic of muscle loss during fasting. I mentioned that it is optimal to do some exercise while fasting to prevent muscle loss. He did not believe me and asked for scientific articles that backed up my point.

I’d look here where muscle loss is listed as a fasting myth. Dr Jason Fung talks about a study showing lean muscle was not lost in a study which I am sure is linked in here somewhere, but fasting is definitely muscle sparing.
