Severe acid reflux and stomach pain

I’ve been doing IF for about 6 months now and every single aspect of my health is doing far better — except my gut health.

i usually follow one of two schedules:

  1. don’t eat until 430-6 pm and then have dinner

  2. eat breakfast around 730 am and then only eat again at aforementioned dinner time

the problem is, i need my coffee every morning to survive my job. i work with a child and have to be up very early to make it on time. so i’m often drinking coffee or espresso on a completely empty stomach. i also take SSRIs and other psych meds, which seem to irritate my stomach.

i never had acid reflux or stomach pain before this lifestyle. i don’t want to give it up for anything, and i feel much better when i don’t eat breakfast. but i do need coffee at this point in time.

any tips on how to reduce this problem? it’s getting super painful and that can’t be good for my long term gut health.

Answer

TLDR: Coffee caused breakfast.

lol, I just watched something that outlined how eating first thing in the morning is a habit mankind developed after they started drinking coffee first thing in the morning instead in the evening after a meal…for the express purpose of curtailing upset stomachs.

A couple cups of plain tea might give you the boost without the upset stomach.

So I started getting this issue a few months ago, which is weird cause I’ve been doing IF for a few years. I was also having an issue with being really hungry in the morning, so made sure I got more fat with dinner to keep me satiated. Just realized I haven’t had an issue with reflex in awhile either, so maybe that’s related?
