Skipping meal or eating later + sports

Hey! I’ve been doing 16/8 for about 6 weeks now and usually eat my first meal around 1pm-2pm and my last one 8-9pm. I do functional training 3-4 times a week, usually at noon, right before I break my fast. First thing is a vegan, sugar free protein shake and lunch. My reason to do intermittent fasting is mostly energy, mental and physical. So I love to eat out with friends, and these evenings can extend until midnight. dinner is the most enjoyable for me, socially and food wise. Or, I am self employed and sometimes I like to work late. And then suddenly it’s 11 pm and I have only eating a normal lunch today. What I should do I think would be have a backup at my studio, get some somewhere or leave in time to get home before 8. But there is nothing really around my studio for take out.

So, would you rather skip dinner then, eat the next day at 1pm after sports or would you eat late that evening and the next day at 4pm? Second option would be 4 hours after my sport session and I’m not sure if that’s good for my health. Also, I thought you’re supposed to take the protein shake within 3 hours after exercise. That would break my fast or be too late for benefitting my workout.

Edit: A clarification. During my fasts I only drink water and black coffee.

Answer

Protein shake goes a bit against IF principals. I would seek to make it a near zero calorie drink that has good micro-nutrients and salts instead.

Skipping dinner is very easy to fail, compared to skipping earlier meals. I would not do that. I would experiment with skipping/postponing lunch instead.
