I absolutely have. I lost over 90 pounds in a year, and my doc put me in for a second sleep study where they found I don’t have sleep apnea anymore unless I slept on my back (which I never intentionally do) and that I could give the machine back

It will depend on the cause of your sleep apnea. Sleep apnea caused by obesity hypoventilation may resolve with weight loss, while sleep apnea caused by tracheomalacia or central sleep apnea are not going to be affected so much (or at all) by your weight.

I lost about 80 pounds since I went on bipap. A recent sleep study had them able to reduce my pressures. Good news, as I no longer have to use Gorilla tape to keep the mask tight to my face ;-)

I have had sleep apnea my entire life, or since I was a very young child at least. I was normal weight until I graduated high school, and I’m not sure if it’s gotten worse since I have become overweight.

However, I did transition from sleeping on my side to sleeping on my back as I gained weight due to being extremely uncomfortable with the way my fat felt in certain positions. Since Nov 1st (SW:170, CW:155.8) I’ve gone from the upper range of overweight for my height to the lower range of overweight and I am now able to comfortably sleep on my side again.

Side sleeping is a recommended sleeping position to help people with sleep apnea breathe easier, so that might explain my slight improvement in sleep quality.

Your results will probably depend on if your weight is the cause, or a large contributor, to your sleep apnea. For me, I don’t think my weight (which has ranged from 124 to 170 over the last 9 years) is a notable contributor to my sleep apnea
