So I tried a 72h fast.. Expecting it to be hard from reading all the stories, but somehow it was a walk in the park. I wasn’t hungry at all. I read a lot of people saying the second and third day are the hardest, but nothing.. Even when I started eating again: my expectation was to taste this heavenly meal, but again nothing special. Just another meal without a heightened sense of taste/smell. Is this normal? I can’t be the only one
Totally normal.
If you mentally prepare yourself ahead of time, and have done shorter fasts before it’s pretty comfortable. Stay on top of getting enough water and electrolytes and you should be able run on “battery power” (body fat) just fine. That’s the whole purpose of body fat after all, and your body is tuned to operate very efficiently on it.
It was one fast. Everyone has had one fast that was different than others. I’ve had 24 hr fasts that were hard and 4-day fasts that were a breeze. And I’ve had 3-day fasts that were a nightmare and many, many 1-day fasts that didn’t even register simply because I was busy and didn’t think to eat.
It’s normal.
You’re not alone though I’m curious how often do you fast, what’s the typical duration and what are some basic body stats? For my part, I’ve been through a 7 day fast which was way easier than a lot of the 72hr fasts I often do. Sometimes things just line up.
Normal, I had a 5 day fast that was super easy, but struggled to finish a 48 hr fast. I think it is a mind set for me. When I do an extended fast I make sure my food supply at home is at a minimum. And the 24 - 48 hr fast i don’t prepare as well.
I’ve done a lot of short fasts mostly 36-48 hours but some longer. I rarely feel hungry and food never tastes amazing to me afterwards. Usually I feel a little tired the longer I fast and then not as hungry on the day I break my fast.
