So some background: 26 year old female, starting weight 360 lbs/currently 323 lbs. I’m diving right into a 7 day fast (going to attempt a mix of fasting then keto but keto as a vegetarian is rough so we’ll see). I have some questions about electrolytes, refeeding, smoking, and autophagy!
I bought the “Codeage Keto Electrolytes Supplement” from Amazon, is this sufficient for keeping my electrolytes up? (https://a.co/d/8firGS1) Also totally unsure of how much to take in a day if anyone could advise?!
I also bought a protein shake powder, would this be something I could break my fast with (there’s 4g carbs per serving) or do I have to go the broth route?
I’m also a cigarette smoker, does anyone have experience fasting while continuing to smoke? Is it a horrible idea?
Lastly, I’m pretty heavily tattooed so I’m counting on autophagy to help my skin maybe be a tiny bit less saggy after losing weight so my tats don’t look ridiculous. Does autophagy have significant benefits for keeping skin tighter? I know if I get to a healthy weight I’ll have mass amounts of excess skin but obviously hoping to limit it however I can if anyone has other tips.
I used to weigh 170 lbs about 4 years ago but I gained nearly 200 pounds after I got sober off speed so I’m just ready to be healthy for once.
I know you can do a 7 day fast, but I would advise a shorter one to start. Set yourself up for success and you can always do a longer one in a few weeks. Even 24 hour fasts, basically one normal sized meal a day, are going to result in significant weight loss and is very sustainable.
If you want to go longer like a 2 or 3 day is plenty long for your first go!
Smoking should suppress appetite, but the nicotine might hit harder and make you feel a little off if you haven’t eaten for a long time.
Best of luck on whatever you decide! You can do it.
Hello.
Good luck with your fast. I recommend starting with something shorter then a 7 day fast. Start with a 24 hour fast. Just one whole day without food. The next day, eat. Then do a two day fast, and just keep adding a day each time. Shorter, simpler goals. If you started doing this tomorrow, by 30 days from now you would have done a whole lot of fasting!
I used to be a cigarette smoker too and I smoked throughout my fasts and I had no issues. I switched to vaping now and I highly recommend you switch too!
Good luck
